The Karen Edlund Future Nurse Leaders Fund, was created in honor of it's namesake, Karen Edlund, RN, an exemplary nurse leader who served as the Director of the SRH Program at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for 23 years, from 1992 until her retirement in May 2015. During her tenure Karen developed and managed several critical initiatives that have been key to ensuring access to comprehensive SRH services for the people of Massachusetts. In addition to her leadership with the MA Dept of Health, she has also played an important leadership role with several other organizations. Karen served on several Boards including: NSRH, the Cambridge Health Alliance Public Health Board, Provide, and the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association.

The Fund supports both the Karen Edlund Future Nurse Leader Award, which is given annually to recognize excellence in our student chapter leaders, and the Karen Edlund Future Nurse Leaders Fellowship, which cultivates nurse leadership in under-represented nursing students by providing targeted resources and support to help them fulfill their leadership goals. Both programs seek to recognize and cultivate the kind of amazing nurse leadership that Karen exemplified.

Both programs are made possible through the generous contributions of donors committed to supporting the next generation of nurse leaders and preserving Karen's legacy.

This year we have set a goal of raising $25,000 in support of these programs. Last year we were able to raise $16,665, which allowed us to launch the first cohort of five Fellows. $25,000 would allow us to increase the cohort to 8 and increase the amount of stipend and project support that each Fellow receives.

Thanks to all of the generous donors who contributed last year!
